During this trip to Malaysia, I covered Kuala Lumpur, Genting Highlands, and Langkawi, and the weather varied among these three locations. In October, Kuala Lumpur experienced moderate and humid temperatures due to rainfall. Genting Highlands, in comparison, was considerably cooler than KL, but thermals were not necessary. The weather in Genting in October was delightful. On the other hand, Langkawi was quite warm, with temperatures ranging between 25°C and 31°C.

My Experiences on a Six-Day Journey to Malaysia

I embarked on this memorable trip to Malaysia in October, skillfully organized by Malaysia Tourism. Accompanied by nine other individuals, I had a wonderful time exploring the finest attractions of Malaysia and staying at some of the most stunning accommodations, relishing delectable meals at top-notch restaurants, and much more. Keep reading to discover the incredible highlights of this six-day excursion to Malaysia.

1. Exploring Kuala Lumpur

My journey to Malaysia commenced with a slightly over a 5-hour flight from New Delhi to Kuala Lumpur and I was rather thrilled about it. After settling at the hotel and having lunch there, I headed to the first attraction of my 6-day Malaysia trip which was Batu Caves. These were a succession of caverns and cave temples that had 272 colorful steps to ascend to the summit. The initial sight of this attraction was the golden shimmer of the stunning Lord Murugan sculpture, which also occurs to be the tallest Murugan sculpture in the world, towering at a height of 47.2 meters. The ascent was a tad laborious but the temples and the vistas from atop were exquisite. The temple complex beneath and the apertures above in the limestone caves, from where the light peeked in, appeared delightful after the climb.

After Batu Caves, I proceeded to the Central Market, which was rather near Chinatown. The first thing that caught my attention around Central Market was the graffiti, both captivating and lively. The Central Market itself is a historical building in Malaysia and accommodates over 300 shops that showcase art, culture, food, and experiences. My preferred stop at this market was the Fish Spa, which was an initial time encounter for me. Tingly at the start, it was enjoyable after the first one or two minutes. The market also featured Batik paintings, mementos, and other artsy items including packs of postcards in the form of vintage printed photographs.

The subsequent stop was a crossroad from where I obtained the perfect perspective of the Petronas Twin Towers, the tallest edifice in the world until 2004 and the tallest twin towers to date. After snapping a few photos with this marvel, I proceeded to another renowned tower of Kuala Lumpur, Menara Kuala Lumpur. Here I had dinner at Atmosphere 360, which is a restaurant 282m above ground level and with the appearance of a spaceship. Later, I also visited the observation deck where I relished awe-inspiring panoramas of the city of Kuala Lumpur. That concluded the sightseeing in Kuala Lumpur.

2. A Day At Genting Highlands

No Guide to Traveling in Malaysia is comprehensive without mentioning Genting Highlands. And another highlight of my six-day trip to Malaysia was a day at Genting Highlands. A mountain resort in Malaysia, Genting is an excellent addition to anyone’s itinerary. The meandering roads and lush scenery made the journey even more breathtaking. Genting is like a whole different world with a multitude of indoor and outdoor activities. Unfortunately, the outdoor theme park was closed at the time, but that didn’t stop me from having a blast.

The tour began with a delicious lunch at Jom Makan Street Food, where I indulged in delectable South Indian cuisine. The next stop was the Sky Symphony show, which happens to be the only complimentary attraction at Genting Highlands. It’s a visual spectacle, a captivating story told through thousands of floating spheres that dance in the sky. It’s truly entertaining. Afterwards, I went to experience The Void, an exhilarating virtual reality adventure. Based on popular Hollywood stories, there are different missions to embark on, and you can experience it all with a team of four. It was one of the most thrilling experiences throughout the entire trip.

But the day didn’t end there, as I still had the exciting cable car ride in Genting to look forward to. I soon began my descent to Chin Swee Temple in Genting. The moment I stepped onto the glass-bottom gondola, it started to rain. The views of the dense green forest below and all around were awe-inspiring. The glass bottom of the gondola added to the excitement, and the surroundings became misty and enchanting. By the time I reached the temple, the clouds had cleared slightly, offering me breathtaking vistas of this nine-story Chinese temple. It was truly one of the most picturesque sights in Genting.

To cap off the day at Genting, I visited Snow World where I had a blast tobogganing and taking pictures inside igloo houses.

3. Walking Tour in Cenang

If you’re in the mood for some duty-free shopping, the duty-free stores in Langkawi are the ultimate destinations for purchasing candies, spirits, and cigars. Liquor is reasonably priced, and there is a wide selection of chocolates to choose from. Just outside these duty-free stores, located on Cenang Street, you’ll find numerous shops for street shopping in Langkawi. These stores offer a variety of souvenirs, local jewelry, handicrafts, apparel, perfumes, and unique bags. There’s even a sidewalk lined with food trucks in Cenang where you can savor the local cuisine of Langkawi.

4. Island Jumping On A Personal Watercraft

Langkawi, a cluster of 99 islands, is breathtakingly beautiful. The transparent azure waters, ivory beaches, and lush verdant surroundings all contribute to the grandeur of this cluster of islands. 4 out of a total of 99 islands are populated here and on a 4 hour Personal Watercraft excursion with Mega Water Sports, I embarked on island jumping to some inhabited while some unpopulated islands. The initial halt was at the freshwater lake of Dayang Bunting which is also referred to as the Lake of the Expectant Maiden. A brief trek led us to this exquisite lake that was enclosed by dense woodlands and boasted invigorating chilly water.

After a dip here, I proceeded to the swamps and calcareous caverns and later paused at a distant island before finally making my way back to the mainland. The instructor was extremely tolerant and provided thorough instructions prior to the commencement of the excursion. All in all, it was undeniably an exhilarating experience and the ultimate approach to discover diverse islands of Langkawi.

5. Elevated Langkawi Cable Car

Langkawi is not only about the azure tones and the profoundness of the ocean, but it is also about the mountains and conquering heights. The highest cable car of Malaysia, Langkawi Cable Car, takes individuals through the eastern cliffs of Mt. Machinchang, over the luxuriant green forests. The viewing platform offered vistas of the most immaculate dusk. One can even organize a wedding at this place, overlooking the world, among the clouds, and fasten their vows and commitments by placing a marriage lock on the bridge here.

The sundown panoramas from above were the most splendid of this half a dozen-day Malaysia journey. The Sky Bridge was closed due to safety concerns as it was lightly raining, but the mere glimpse of it was exhilarating and thrilling. I would be delighted to return to Langkawi, solely to traverse the Langkawi Sky Bridge.

6. Gliding Through The Langkawi Rainforest

Another astounding escapade in Langkawi was gliding through one of the most ancient rainforests in the world. And Umgawa Legendary Adventures made it attainable with complete support, incredible guides, and entertaining moments as we traversed the 12 ziplines and 3 bridges, a journey that took approximately 2.5 hours to complete. It was immense amusement to soar from one side to another, reaching a maximum height of 80 meters above the ground and catching glimpses of the Andaman Sea in the distance. The descent was achieved through abseiling, which was equally enjoyable.

7. Melodies and Movement on the Sunset Cruise

The journey of the Malaysia expedition concluded with a delightful twilight experience on a voyage vessel. I hurriedly embarked on the cruise ship using a smaller boat since I missed it at the harbor. The thrilling speedboat ride set my heart racing, and once I stepped foot on the ship, welcoming smiles and beverages greeted me. The cruise gracefully sailed through the serene sea waters, and as the sun descended, the atmosphere onboard heightened. The air was filled with harmonious tunes, lively dance performances, and delectable cuisine. As we all swayed to the beats of Bollywood melodies, that evening engraved a lasting memory of the trip.

Lodging in Kuala Lumpur, Genting, and Langkawi

During our 6-day sojourn in Malaysia, I had the opportunity to stay in a trio of distinct hotels. The first accommodation was the Tamu Hotel & Suites in Kuala Lumpur. This property exuded a pleasant aura combined with a cooperative staff. The expansive rooms treated me to breathtaking vistas, offering simultaneous views of both KL Tower and the Petronas Twin Towers. The rooms themselves were generously spacious and equipped with modern amenities including air conditioning and WiFi connectivity. Although the vegetarian dining options were limited during our first day’s lunch, the considerate manager arranged for a customized serving of appetizing fried rice, catering to our specific dietary requirements.

The subsequent place where I resided on my Malaysia vacation was at Genting Highlands at Resorts World Genting. I acquired the Deluxe room which was later upgraded to Superior Deluxe. The Deluxe rooms however petite with approximately 180 sq ft space had WiFi and no vistas accessible. On the other hand, the Superior Deluxe with roughly 320 sq ft space, had picturesque panoramas of the meandering roads leading to Genting Highlands but no WiFi. Therefore, establish your priorities in the correct order before selecting the room here.

The ultimate place where I stayed was at The Frangipani Langkawi Resort & Spa in Langkawi. I resided in the Deluxe Rooms which were the most fundamental at this delightful property. The Frangipani Langkawi Resort & Spa was a beachfront property where I didn’t have a plethora of time to spend, but overall it was a stunning and sanitary area. I was greeted with garlands and a welcome drink, and everyone was cooperative at the property.

Cuisine In Malaysia

If you are a herbivore, then sustenance can be a tad complicated, particularly when journeying during off-season durations because buffets do not contain an abundance of vegetarian alternatives in Malaysia. However, there are always alternatives obtainable. Additionally, coconut water is found in great quantities here, and one can locate it effortlessly everywhere in Malaysia.

During my Malaysia voyage, one place that genuinely stood out for me was Huggin Hippo Langkawi. It was a fashionable restaurant with panoramas of the ocean. The proprietor of this place was very hospitable and everything I sampled here was exceptionally delectable. It was undoubtedly the finest meal of my whole 6 days Malaysia trip. Furthermore, the desserts here were genuinely appetizing, and overflowing with love and warmth! Do try this place, on your journey to Langkawi.

Shopping In Malaysia

If one is searching for duty-free shopping, then Langkawi is the ideal place for it. One can purchase chocolates and liquor here. For souvenirs and artsy stuff, I explored Cenang street and discovered genuinely astonishing places with earrings, bookmarks, and other aesthetic items. One can also purchase beachwear, fragrances, and more on this street here. If one is searching for more upscale shopping then, Genting Premium outlet is the perfect place to shop at. Other than these two destinations, one can also investigate Central Market in Kuala Lumpur was Batik and other genuine Malaysian commodities and Chinatown for street shopping.

What To Pack For Malaysia

I traveled to Malaysia in October and the weather was ideal for summer attire. Genting Highlands was chilly compared to Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi but didn’t necessitate a thermal.

Malaysia Travel Tips

I traveled to Malaysia for the first time, and these are a few things that I think would benefit any first-timer here:

  • If you are traveling to Malaysia in October, then carry an umbrella as it can commence to rain anytime. The showers are light and it doesn’t rain for an extended period, but an umbrella would always be convenient.
  • Maintain a hard copy of the visa and itinerary as you might need it during immigration.
  • Always carry potable water with oneself. Refill your bottles at the hotel or wherever you find drinking water available as water is costly in Malaysia.
  • Carry a swimsuit if you plan on attempting the watersports in Langkawi.
  • Apply sunscreen adequately because the sun in Langkawi won’t just tan, but might give you burns, particularly on lengthier excursions like island hopping jet ski, under the sun.
  • Ensure that you are properly covered when visiting Batu Caves or you’ll have to rent a sarong at the temple complex below. The apparel or shorts should be below the knees, and one’s shoulders covered.
  • Always carry dehydrated food items with you because at times you might not find the food of your preference.
  • Carry an international adapter as the plug points might not function without it.
  • One can only carry 1 liter of alcohol from Langkawi to Kuala Lumpur, so purchase intelligently.
  • Comply with the timings provided by the guide or you’ll miss out on experiences.
  • Langkawi resorts are beautiful and if you are planning to stay at one, then keep a day entirely free, merely to relish the property and unwind at the beach.

How To Reach Malaysia

One can take a flight to Kuala Lumpur from various cities in India like New Delhi and Mumbai. I took Malindo airlines from Delhi to Kuala Lumpur and back. There was no food available in the flight, for those who had pre-booked a meal, neither for purchase. So, if you plan to fly with Malindo, make sure you are carrying your own food as it is around 5.5 hours flight from one point to another.
